Every civilized society needs some form of law and order. While self-defense and protecting your own life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is typically not prosecuted, it’s ultimately up to the official overseeing a trial to determine the outcome.
Whether a trial is held on any charges is up to the defendant, a trial can be waived if they choose to plead guilty. Sentencing will be imposed at the lower range of possibilities in that instance.
Should a sentence or judgement include confiscation of any property or money, all appropriate money and inventory will be manually removed from the character’s database entries.
For purpose of roleplay, time frames for jail terms and probation are converted to “real life” time frames as follows:
- 1 day/overnight – At least 2 hours RL time.
- 1 week – 1 full 24 hour day RL time.
- 1 month/30 days – 1 week RL time.
- 1 year – 1 month RL time.
- Life in Prison – Character must be deleted after any “prison” roleplay time is completed.
- Death Sentence – Character must be deleted after sentence is carried out.
These laws are commonly enforced by towns and territories by US Marshals, Sheriffs, and Sheriff Deputies. If a bounty is issued for a wanted fugitive, it is typically half of the possible fine amount(s). Some jurisdictions may be more strict than others, and laws will be developed and adapted over time.
